Day 2 of our cost of living advent calendar is brought to you by Annette Groves, manager at Advice Portsmouth. Her message is that Christmas gifts don’t have to be brand new, they just have to come from the heart. Second-hand, pre-loved and upcycled gifts can be special and pocket friendly, not to mention good for the planet.
If you need inspiration then social media is where to find it; search hashtags such as #buynothingnew, #lovedclotheslast and #secondhandfirst for ideas and then browse Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Vinted for example, and of course, your local charity shops.
Christmas is a time for families and friends to get together, not a time to stress or over-spend but that’s often easier said than done. If you need help with problem debt Advice Portsmouth can help.
If you need mental health support, call the Portsmouth Mental Health Hub on 0300 123 6621 (weekdays, 8am-6pm) to talk to the team.
