Money saving tips from our 2023 low-cost Christmas advent calendar

Have a Christmas clear out!

We all have things that we never use or don’t need hanging around in our cupboards; computer games, toys, toiletry sets, clothing, DVDs… you know the sort of thing I mean. Some of us might even have unused Christmas presents from last year? Rebecca of The Learning Place suggests that we “Have a pre-Christmas clear out and organise everything that you don’t need or no longer want. If the stuff is in good condition, consider either re-gifting it which will save you money, or selling it on an online market place to increase your Christmas budget”.

Any items that you don’t want to re-gift or sell, can be given to a charity, or listed on sites like Freecycle or Freegle for people to come and collect.

Alternatively, you can take certain unwanted items to local recycling points. Check our map to find a recycling bank near you and to see what items they accept. Or take it to the Recycling Centre. See opening times and book a visit.

While we have you here, take a look at changes to our Christmas and New Year rubbish and recycling collections this year, so you don’t get caught out. Let neighbours know too!
